The most important papers when you buy a diamond would be the diamond certificate, or otherwise known as the diamond grading report. This document is normally laminated and contains details of the diamond that you purchase. A certified gemologist that works in independent laboratory is the one who prepares the certificate.

The diamond certificates always have details like the clarity, color, carat weight, and the type of cut. Plus, it will give descriptions of the diamond's symmetry, depth percentages, polish, table, and shape. Other traits of the diamond like the graining, florescence, and its imperfections are also noted. Lastly, a comprehensive drawing of the actual diamond is also included.

One advantage or buying a certified diamond is that, nobody would have to doubt its authenticity. You can easily validate its carat, clarity, weight, and color. On the other hand, obtaining a diamond certificate require a minimal fee because it is being prepared by a third party. But the fee will surely be worth it, since you will not have any trouble of knowing the real value of your diamond.

So, purchasing a certified diamond will give you peace of mind and definite value. If for instance you have found a diamond but it doesn’t have a certificate yet, then you can simply request for it to be sent to a Gemological laboratory in order to be certified. Then again, when you do purchase a certified diamond, make certain that the issued certificate corresponds to the diamond that you receive.

Finally, one more advantage of the diamond certificate is that, it can help you get a fair price once you have decided to resell it.
